WIU President Prepares For State Funding Cuts

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn wants to give Western Illinois University even less money next year than it received this year.

The governor’s budget address called for a funding decrease of 2.5 million dollars for Western. In response WIU President Jack Thomas  sent a letter to staff telling them to prepare for the cuts.

WIU Performing Arts Center is on Track for 2015 Opening

WIU Performing Arts Center

Western Illinois University's new performing arts center should be ready for its scheduled opening in the fall of 2015.

Project Manager Ted Renner says the project should go out for contractor bids in late fall. Construction could begin in January.  Renner is confident the project will receive state funding to stay on schedule.

Occupy Wall Street Could Lead to Shift in Policies

Although the Occupy Wall Street movement is not involved in conventional campaigning, a political expert says it could have a dramatic effect on a second Obama administration.

Keith Boeckelman is chair of the political science department at Western Illinois University.

He says the president had to toe a moderate line after Republicans took control of the House of  Representatives and the Tea Party movement played a major part in House politics.
