Flying Squirrels Prepare for Performances

Chicago Troupe Leads Arts Camp

Rehearsal for the "Flying Squirrels" at the WCIAC.

The Core Project Chicago, an interdisciplinary arts company, is leading a week-long arts camp at the West Central Illinois Arts Center in Macomb. The camp is open to youth in grades 7-12. They group is known as the “Flying Squirrels.”

Grace Nessen-Gilligan lives in the Chicago suburbs. She is visiting a friend in Macomb and decided to take part.

She is preparing a script that combines elements from her own life and her talent playing the flute. She is also putting some of the skills she is learning to work in the script.

Art Collectors Talk About Favorite Things

The West Central Illinois Arts Center in Macomb asked art collectors to contribute a piece for display in its new exhibit. The artwork is accompanied by short narratives that explain its significance to the owner.

The show is called A Few Of Our Favorite Things. More than 30 works are exhibited. They will remain on display through the end of July.

The show includes oil paintings, watercolors, a piece of fiber art and more. The stories explaining why art lovers bought the pieces are as varied as art itself.

A Few Of Our Favorite Things

  • Interview with Dean Rockwell and Fred Jones

The West Central Illinois Arts Center in Macomb is trying something a little different. Instead of asking artists to display works, it asked collectors to share a favorite piece.

The show, which opens Friday, June 22, is called “A Few Of Our Favorite Things.” An opening reception will be held 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm on June 22.  The reception is free and open to the public.

Artist Fred Jones, who helped put together the show, said those who contributed pieces were also asked to write a short blurb about the art work.

Cornfed Film Fest

Emphasis - April 6

Rich Egger's guests are Sue Scott and Nancy Crossman, who are co-founders of the Cornfed Film Fest in Macomb.

The inaugural festival will take place April 13 - 15, 2012. The Western Illinois Museum, 201 S Lafayette St will serve as the Welcome Center where you can find tickets and information.

The theme is A Festival of Firsts. It will feature student films, directorial debuts, and many other types of "firsts."
