Rich Egger’s guest on Emphasis is Library Specialist Greg Phelps of the Malpass Library at Western Illinois University. They talk about graphic novels and the growing collection of those books at Malpass.
Phelps said the library now has nearly 600 graphic novels.
The Malpass Library at Western Illinois University is displaying 20 photos from the collection “Lincoln in Illinois” through June 28th.
Chicago photographer Ron Schramm took nearly 100 pictures of Lincoln statues around the state for the collection. There is also a book with the photos that is available at the library.
Library Archivist Jeff Hancks says the library chose photos of statues in this region and in Springfield.
They tell a lot about the sculptors and public perceptions of the 16th president.
The late Dr. Maurice Nielsen has left a legacy beyond his contributions to the philosophy department he helped establish at Western Illinois University in 1959.
His family has donated his personal collection to WIU's Malpass Library.
It is the largest such donation in the library's history. It is composed of more than 9,000 items including nearly 3,000 books.
Library Specialist Greg Phelps helped to catalog the collection. He says it was a “treasure hunt” that took about six months.
