Macomb Public Library Fundraising Update

This week on Emphasis, Rich Egger’s guests are Macomb Public Library Director Dennis Danowski and Capital Campaign Co-Chairs Melissa Inman and Judy Kerr.

They talk about the campaign to raise $794,025 by June 30, 2013. If that goal is met, the state will provide the library with a $2.38 million grant.

The nearly $3.2 million total will be used to build a two-story addition that will almost double the library’s space.

Kerr said this follows the model established when the community’s Carnegie Library was built in 1904.

Monmouth was the only municipality to receive a grant from the inaugural Illinois Broadband Innovation Fund, the public raised more questions about Iowa Fertilizer Company’s proposed plant in Lee County, and a state panel voted to proceed with the closure of the Jacksonville Developmental Center.

Big Campaign Push by Macomb Public Library

Money from Andrew Carnegie helped build the Macomb Public Library building more than 100 years ago. Now the library board is asking you for money so the building might last another 100 years.

A fundraising effort called “Campaign for the Future” is being launched to build an addition. An old building was connected to the library years ago to provide more space but Board President George Wanamaker said it is insufficient.

World Book Night Comes to Macomb

Devotees of the written word will share their passion and free books April 23rd. It's the first World Book Night in the United States.

Macomb is one of 5,000 U.S. communities chosen to take part. The city's public library and New Copperfield's Book Store were selected as distributors. World Book Night is sponsored by a consortium of book publishers and authors who donate the books.

Linda Cox of New Copperfield's said “book givers” each have 20 books to give away.
