IL DNR Revokes North Canton Mine Permit

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has revoked a permit for a proposed coal mine just north of Canton in Fulton County.

The DNR had issued a mining permit for the “North Canton Mine” several years ago but the agency has now decided it did not follow its own guidelines when doing so.

Coal Company Challenges Pollution Ruling

Last month Springfield Coal challenged the Illinois Pollution Control Board’s ruling that the company violated its pollution permit over 600 times. 

The company is challenging the ruling and attorney Jessica Dexter of the Environmental Law and Policy Center says the motion could delay any decision on penalties until May.
