The Central Illinois Foodbank

Rich Egger's guest is Kaleigh Friend, Public Relations Manager for the Central Illinois Foodbank. The organization services 21 counties, including Schuyler, Cass, Morgan, Brown, Adams, and Pike.

Friend said the foodbank provides 8.5 million lbs of food to communities per year. Some of that is delivered through mobile foodbanks.

She said the Central Illinois Foodbank is seeing a new demographic of people requiring assistance.

Jason Parrott's guest is Mike Norris, who is the Executive Director for the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission.  They talk about the work of the commission and several ongoing projects.

The SEIRPC serves governmental bodies in Lee, Des Moines, Henry and Louisa Counties.  The voluntary membership organization does contract work, performs property management and oversees state and federal funding for cities, counties and school districts.

Rich Eggers' guest is Dr Tom Williams, Associate Professor of Geography at Western Illinois University. They talk about the recent heat wave and the year-long drought in the region.

"Farmers are rightfully quite concerned about the growing drought threat and the fact that the forecast for the next week doesn't hold a lot of hope for any significant rainfall," Williams said.

Jason Parrott’s guest is Keokuk Police Chief Tom Crew.  They talk about Crew’s upcoming retirement and his 25 year career in law enforcement.

Crew describes his time with the Keokuk Police Department as a “great ride” filled with good friends and fond memories.

He says he is grateful that he found a career where it was never a burden to have to go in to work. 

Crew says that will make it more difficult, though, to walk out of his office for that final time.

Sue Scott stands at a teacher's desk that's part of the "Legacy of Learning" exhibit

Rich Egger's guest is Western Illinois Museum Curator Sue Scott. They talk about the museum's new exhibit Legacy of Learning: A History of Our Schools.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the museum. Scott promises there will not be a test! The exhibit remains on display until September 22, 2012.

The exhibit follows a timeline. Scott said that will help visitors follow some of the nuances of information such as changes in ordinances and laws and the types of schools.
