Bushnell voters won't see a familiar name on their ballots next April.

Mayor Steve Russell will not  seek another term. He spent a lot of time considering his decision.

He says, “I figured it's time for a new person to see what they can do for Bushnell.”

The ballot for the August 7 primary election in Missouri is rather top heavy as there are plenty of contested races for federal and statewide office: U.S. Senator, Governor, Lt. Governor.

Most of the local races are uncontested, though, with the exception of two in Clark County.

Incumbent Roger Sedore (D) is being challenged for his seat as Western District Commissioner by Paul Brotherton (D) and Ed Knupp (D).

Larry Saxton (R) and Henry Dienst (R) will square off in the primary for the opportunity to face Eastern District Commissioner Jerry Neyens (D) in November.

A month ago today Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker defeated Democrat Tom Barrett and retained his office, as did Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and three of four Republican state senators.

The results were similar to 2010, when Walker beat Barrett 52-46 percent. Handing Walker a 53-46 victory, voters apparently “concluded it is not best to swap horses while crossing the river,” as Lincoln said after winning reelection in 1864.

A potential legislative candidate in southeast Iowa must find another way to get on the November ballot.

Republican Jim Steffen of Argyle announced in late May his intention to run a write-in campaign in Iowa’s 83rd House District.

Lee County Election Coordinator Denise Fraise says Steffen received 107 votes.

She says that would normally be enough votes to move him on to the general election, but the redistricting process has changed that.
