The presidential campaign made its way to southeast Iowa for the second time in the last month.

Southeast Iowa voters who do not want to wait for Election Day have started casting their ballots.  There are no restrictions on who can vote early.

Southeast Iowa voters will have a few more choices when they go to the polls in the fall.

Five men beat the deadline to get on the general election ballot for county, state and/or federal office in Lee & Des Moines Counties.

They did so through nominating petitions or conventions.

LEE COUNTY

Former Lee County Maintenance Director Rick Carter will appear on the ballot for the District I seat on the Board of Supervisors.

He filed a lawsuit against the county after being fired in late 2010.

Republican Illinois State Senate candidate Randy Frese of Paloma said the state's pension problems are a sign of broken government, which he said was caused by a lack of leadership.

Frese said the pension reform program in Rhode Island could serve as a template for Illinois. He said Rhode Island raised the retirement age, froze the cost of living adjustment (COLA), and implemented a 401K style plan. Frese said the state did so long before it got into a financial hole as deep as the one in Illinois.
