West Burlington Approves Asbestos Removal

West Burlington is moving ahead with plans to demolish a former school.

The city council has hired Iowa-Illinois Taylor Insulation (Davenport, IA) to remove asbestos from the former West Burlington Middle School.

The city purchased the building for $1 so it could be torn down and replaced by several new homes.

City Administrator Dan Gifford says four bids were submitted for the project with the low bid of just over $27,000 coming in more than $8,000 less than the next lowest bid.

He says the company plans to start removing the asbestos as early as this weekend.

The project is expected to take about ten days to complete.

Gifford is working on a request for proposals for the demolition of the school by April 2013.
