Interim Chief Expected to Keep Job
7:33 pm

Vote on Burlington Fire Chief
By Jason Parrott
City Manager Jim Ferneau says Interim Fire Chief Matt Trexel is his choice to lead the Burlington Fire Department.
Trexel was the only applicant who met education and experience requirements.
Ferneau made the announcement after Trexel completed an assessment center and several interviews with city personnel.
Trexel is a graduate of Western Illinois University.
He has been with the department for more than 15 years, serving as firefighter, captain and battalion chief prior to the promotion to interim chief in September.
He replaced former Burlington Fire Chief Tom Clements, who was demoted.
A vote on Ferneau’s recommendation is scheduled for Monday night’s city council meeting.
