Vintage Planes Travel To Southeast Iowa
Keokuk, IA – Vintage planes from World War II traveled to Keokuk for an annual convention. About 50 planes took part in the 15th annual Internation L-Bird Fly-In Convention. Airport manager Greg Gobble says the intense heat did not affect this year's turnout. The event featured flying and landing displays along with a flour-bag bombing contest. Gobble says these planes were used as air ambulances and artillery spotters as well as for forward reconnaissance. The pilots tried to avoid the excessive temperatures by sitting in the shade from their planes.
