Solar Panels for Port of Burlington

The Port of Burlington will soon be an example of “going green.”

The solar panels will be placed on the Port of Burlington

Ten 240-watt solar panels will be installed on the western side of the building’s roof.

It will be... a demonstration of the solar panels for the public

The idea came from the Burlington’s renewable energy and energy conservation advisory committee.

Chairman Jerry Parks says the project serves several purposes.

“It will be both a demonstration of the solar panels for the public and it will obviously generate energy to offset the energy of the building,” says Parks.

He says a monitoring system will be placed inside the building so people can see the amount of energy generated by the solar panels.

Parks say the project is expected to cost about $9,400.  Committee members will handle the installation at the Port of Burlington.

Parks says the location is significant as the solar panels will be visible to people driving towards Burlington’s riverfront or along the Mississippi River Bridge.
