Rep. Loebsack Still Pushing SECTORS
Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA 2) is living up to the idea of “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
The Congressman has been promoting his Strengthening Employment Clusters to Organize Regional Success (SECTORS) Act for several years.
The legislation has passed the U.S. House, but has never made it through the U.S. Senate.
Rep. Loebsack reintroduced the legislation in March.
It offers federal money as a means to get local governments and businesses talking about workforce development.
“Bringing those important stakeholders in the community together,” says Rep. Loebsack, “so they can think strategically about their skills gap, especially that middle skills gap.”
Rep. Loebsack says a good example of how his legislation could work is underway in southeast Iowa.
He points, specifically, to recent and future meetings between Southeastern Community College, Iowa Workforce Development and local building trades groups.
Rep. Loebsack spoke about the SECTORS Act while in West Burlington following one of those meetings.
