Petra van Nuis and Andy Brown- December 7, 2013 in the TSPR Performance Studio
The pairing of jazz vocalist Petra van Nuis and guitarist Andy Brown is one of those rare combinations where all parts seem to fit. As high school sweethearts at a performing arts school in Cincinnati, Petra and Andy grew up together as artists.
Relying only on the deep belief in the music they play, their approach is simple and without affectation. Andy and Petra are true romantics and the timeless music of the Great American Songbook is what inspires them creatively. They enjoy unearthing obscure songs and their extensive repertoire is both impressive and unique. While steeped in tradition, Petra and Andy express their originality in the best sense of the word, by being true to themselves. This sincerity is felt by audiences and musicians alike.
Having relocated to Chicago ten years ago, they regularly play prominent area clubs including the Jazz Showcase, Katerina’s, the Green Mill, Andy's, and Fitzgerald’s. Performance highlights include the prestigious Chautauqua Festival, the Chicago Jazz Festival, and several European tours. With “Far Away Places,” their latest CD re-released in Japan, Petra and Andy continue to spread their swinging sounds to music lovers far and wide.
