KPD Investigating Shooting at KHS

The Keokuk Police Department continues to investigate a shooting at Keokuk High School Thursday night.

Police Chief Dave Hinton says officers responded to a call of shots fired at around 8:00 P.M.  He says they found that two rounds had been fired at the school's "A"-wing from an unknown location outside of the building.

One round passed through a glass pane while the other went through some construction material.

Hinton says no one was injured in the shooting.  There were some faculty members and students in the building at the time of the shooting.

Hinton says it is too early to classify the situation.

"We would have to know the circumstances around it before we would try to figure out what was going on with that," says Hinton.  "We just don't have enough information right now to say what this act was."

Hinton says that uncertainty led to an increased police presence on campus Friday.

He says the leads that have come in are being investigated.  Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Keokuk Police Department.

The district said in a statement on its website that questions about the incident should be directed towards High School Principal Zach Wigle.
