Keokuk Mayor Excited about 2006

Keokuk, IA – The mayor of Keokuk says 2006 could be a year of progress and expansion for his city. 2005 was a mized bag for the city of Keokuk. Residents saw the completion of 7 more blocks of Main Street, a new community foundation and cultural district, and several new business developments. Keokuk's citizens also experienced difficulties due to budget cuts, job loss, and business closures. Mayor Dave Gudgel says the efforts from the entire community in 2005 could result in a banner year for Keokuk in 2006. He has many goals for Keokuk next year. Some bricks and mortar projects include a new marina, a new Rand Park band stand, and new sidewalks, curbs, and lights for 3 blocks of Main Street. Gudgel says he also wants to see the implementation of a major street repair program, a coordinated effort to bring in Vision Iowa money, and a renewed push for new jobs and industry.
