Illinois Broadens Who Can Hold Liquor Licenses
Springfield, IL – Illinois' governor has signed a measure allowing certain public office holders to have liquor licenses. It would allow members of county boards and city councils to be involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages. However, they would not be allowed to vote on matters involving alcohol. They would also be prohibited from being a mayor or county board chairman. The issue arose when three people in Peoria were trying for appointment to the city council.
