Hamilton Could Promote Geodes in AZ
Hamilton, IL – Hamilton could attract more tourists by simply capitalizing on its natural surroundings.
Hundreds of rock-hounds take part in geode hunts in and around Hamilton each year. The next event
is scheduled for the last weekend in September.
Mayor Steve Woodruff says some advertising could dramatically increase those numbers. He says Hamilton is looking into promoting its connection to geodes in Quartzsite, Arizona
Woodruff says that is an ideal location because it is a winter destination for rockhounds. The Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce
describes the city as a rock-hunters paradise with gem and mineral shows throughout the winter months.
Hamilton Mayor Steve Woodruff would like to have an advertising plan in place, be it billboards, websites, or flyers, by December. He says Hamilton put money in the budget for these types of tourism ideas.
