Former SEIA City Clerk Faces Felony Charges
The former city clerk in Farmington, IA is facing multiple felonies after an audit revealed several irregularities in city financial transactions.
Nichole Jarvis, 33, was charged with misconduct in office, forgery and unauthorized use of a credit card on Monday, July 22.
Several hearings regarding the case are scheduled for next month, according to online court records.
The city requested the audit of the period from July 1, 2009 to Nov. 30, 2012 after concerns were identified while Jarvis was on an extended leave.
It revealed the city lost approximately $247,000 in improper disbursements and utility billings that were not billed, not collected, or not properly deposited.
The audit shows Jarvis was hired as city clerk in May 2007.
It recommends certain financial duties be segregated between the city clerk, the mayor and city council members to allow for more checks and balances.
The audit also recommends the city council review financial documents on a periodic basis and implement a better policy for retaining records.
