Monmouth, IL – A Warren County Board committee is looking into whether the county should try to form a health department. Chairman Gary Heaton says representatives from the city of Monmouth suggested the idea. He says a department could provide up to 30 services to the public. In addition, it would make the county eligible for grants that it cannot now get. Heaton says committee members are surveying other counties to find out the pros and cons. He says the committee will make a report to the county board, which will then decide whether to proceed. Heaton says the county could put a referendum on the November ballot, which would let it levy a tax to support the department. If it does not take the issue to the public, it can devote its TB tax to support the department.
