Ken is the Operations Manager at Tri States Public Radio, which he plans and manages scheduling of all programs; produces daily program logs and underwriting announcements; works with the Public Radio Satellite System to acquire and broadcast programs from NPR, APM, PRI and other sources; and programs the AudioVault system. Ken was born in Waukegan, IL but lived in North Chicago for most of his life. Ken has a B.A in Broadcasting with a minor in Art from Western Illinois University. He also took graduate courses in museum/art administration and computer Science. Ken has always been interested in music (playing various instruments: organ, piano, cornet, trombone, tuba, electric guitar) and recording music to play when traveling while in sports for high school athletics. He used to listen to all of the local Chicagoland and Milwaukee radio stations. Once he came to school at WIU, Ken saw a radio tower on campus and found that he needed to take a couple of radio classes to get on the air. Ken took the Second Class Radiotelephone Operators test and got a license in 1974 and worked as a student on WIUM playing various formats from R&B to rock, classical, and jazz until he graduated. Ken has also been DJing since 1974. Ken has worked at WIUM-FM as a Broadcast Program Assistant; he worked WIUM as News/Sports Director, WIUM as Operations Manager and WIUS-FM as Program Director/Advisor. Ken’s Hobbies are DJing, P.A. soundman, bike riding, road trips, and hiking.
