Lee County Wants To Give Company Money

Keokuk, IA – The Lee County Board of Supervisors decided, last September, to invest in a "green" start-up industry.

The panel agreed to give $150,000 to the Lee County Economic Development Group (LCEDG). That organization would pass the money on to AMJET Turbine Systems.

The money would serve as an initial investment in the hydro-electric company. The firm is seriously considering operating in Keokuk.

Keokuk Still Looking At Significant Property Tax Hike

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk Police Chief Tom Crew says members of his department and the Keokuk Fire Department have received a holiday pay incentive for years.

Crew says employees receive time-and-a-half if they work on a holiday. He says they also receive a lump-sum payment in June, even if they don't work a single holiday.

Union members receive about $900. Administrators in each department earn a bit more based on their ranks.

Macomb Might Hold Classes on Holidays

Macomb, IL – The Macomb School Board is reviewing a proposal to hold classes on some holidays, including Veterans' Day.

The plan is being formulated by Superintendent Alene Reuschel. She's concerned that too many people consider Veterans' Day to be just another day off. She says they treat it as a chance to go shopping or see a movie.

Reuschel considers herself an unabashed patriot and says students need to respect and understand the sacrifices made by veterans.

Major Flooding Possible This Spring

The Tri States – The National Weather Service is projecting a "high probability" of spring flooding along parts of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers and their tributaries.

Hydrologist Mark Fuchs says several factors could lead to moderate or even major flooding in parts of Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri along the Mississippi. Those factors include significant winter snow in northern states, and heavy rain last fall in parts of the tri states.
