Burlington, Des Moines County Discuss Law Enforcement Center

Burlington, IA – The construction of a joint law-enforcement center is the top priority for the Burlington City Council. The Burlington Police Department and the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office would utilize the facility.

The city and the county hired Wilson Estes Police Architects to conduct a needs assessment for the facility. The Kansas-based firm has completed its feasibility study.

Quinn Inks Pension Reform Bill

Springfield, IL – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a bill to overhaul the state's pension system. He says it will save $220 billion over a 35 year period.

The law trims benefits for any state workers hired after January 1, 2011. It caps the maximum pension benefit and raises the retirement age.

Quinn called the action "historic" and says it could convince people to support an income tax increase for education.

Monmouth-Roseville To Explore Consolidation

Monmouth, IL – The Monmouth-Roseville school district is going forth with some provisions outlined in its deficit reduction plan. The school board has agreed to send letters to neighboring districts to see if they'd be open to consolidation.

Superintendent Paul Woehlke says this exploration does not mean further consolidation is a done deal -- research into the benefits must be completed first, especially considering the state's financial situation.
